NYMEX will not list its 10-barrel WTI crude oil futures contract on Sunday, August 30 as planned. CME updated its Globex notice today and postponed the launch pending regulatory review, after the CFTC’s Division of Market Oversight extended its review of the filing by 45 days on August 21. That extension runs through October 26, and no replacement launch date has been announced.

What changed

Item Before Now
Listing Effective Sunday, August 30, for trade date Monday, August 31 Postponed, no new date given
CFTC review Approval pending since the July 8 filing Extended by 45 days on August 21, running to October 26

The CFTC’s product record still shows NYMEX Submission No. 26-339 as approval pending, filed on July 8. The 45-day extension and the updated Globex notice are reported by TradingVPS; CME has not published a new launch date.

The contract NYMEX filed

NYMEX submitted the contract voluntarily for Commission approval under Regulation 40.3, which is why the listing waits on the CFTC instead of starting on the exchange’s own schedule. Each contract covers 10 US barrels of WTI crude with a minimum price fluctuation of $0.01 per barrel. The filing gives weekend trading to that smaller contract only.

What stays the same

The 1,000-barrel CL contract keeps standard hours under the same filing, so a routine built around CL sessions is untouched by the delay. Weekend access was attached to the 10-barrel contract, and while that contract is unlisted there is no weekend crude session to hold a position into. An evaluation at a futures prop firm is a paid service with simulated trading of listed contracts, so an unlisted product is not available in one.

What to check

Two records carry the outcome. The CFTC product page for Submission No. 26-339 shows the approval status, and CME’s Globex notice carries the listing date whenever one is set. October 26 is the outer limit of the extended review period, not a scheduled decision day, so an answer can arrive earlier.
