Futures market hours on CME Globex, CME Group's electronic trading platform, run from Sunday 6:00 p.m. to Friday 5:00 p.m. ET for equity index, interest rate, FX, energy and metals futures. Trading stops each weekday from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET for a daily break. Grains trade in two sessions, livestock only during the day, and crypto futures around the clock. Holidays shorten or cancel sessions.
Hours by product group
CME Group runs four exchanges, CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX, and their futures trade on CME Globex. Most groups trade nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week. The daily break is a pause when nothing trades; for most groups it lasts one hour. CME's trading day starts in the evening: the session that opens on Monday at 6:00 p.m. ET belongs to Tuesday.

The symbols are CME's own codes. ES and MES are the E-mini and Micro E-mini S&P 500, NQ and MNQ the Nasdaq-100 versions, ZN the 10-Year Treasury note, 6E the euro, CL WTI crude oil, GC gold, ZC corn, LE live cattle and HE lean hogs.
Session times in ET, CT, PT and UTC
CME publishes its hours in US Central Time (CT). We show Eastern Time (ET), which is one hour later. Pacific Time (PT) is three hours behind ET. The table converts the main session times.

ET, CT and PT change their clocks on the same dates, so the gaps between them never change. UTC has no daylight saving time. So when US daylight saving time starts, every CME time comes one hour earlier in UTC, and when it ends, one hour later. In 2026 US daylight saving time runs from March 8 to November 1. In 2027 it runs from March 14 to November 7. If you trade from outside the US, your own clock may change on a different date, so check the gap in those weeks.
Grains trade in two sessions
Corn (ZC), soybeans (ZS) and wheat (ZW) have an overnight session from 8:00 p.m. to 8:45 a.m. ET, Sunday to Friday. After a pause, the day session runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. ET, Monday to Friday. The week ends on Friday at 2:20 p.m. ET and starts again on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. ET. CME's grain fact card puts the daily settlement, the official closing price, at about 1:15 p.m. CT (2:15 p.m. ET).
Livestock trades only during the day
Live cattle (LE) and lean hog (HE) futures trade Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. ET. There is no overnight session. The market is shut from 2:05 p.m. until 9:30 a.m. the next weekday, and from Friday 2:05 p.m. to Monday 9:30 a.m. ET.
Crypto futures trade 24/7
Since Friday, May 29, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET, CME's bitcoin (BTC), Micro Bitcoin (MBT) and ether (ETH) futures trade around the clock, weekends and holidays included. Two maintenance windows remain:
- Monday to Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 5:02 p.m. ET, with a pre-open from 5:01 p.m. In a pre-open you can enter orders, but nothing trades.
- Saturday, 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. ET, with a pre-open from 4:45 a.m.
Trades made from Friday evening to Sunday evening, and on holidays, count for the next business day.

Christmas EveChristmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, 2026, has no row in this table. CME lists a Christmas holiday window from December 24 to 26, 2026. Its Christmas settlement notice sets early settlement for equity index and crypto futures at 12:00 p.m. CT (1:00 p.m. ET) that day. A settlement time is not the same as a trading close, and the Globex hours for December 24 were not shown in CME's Holiday and Trading Hours tool when we checked on September 26, 2026. Check CME before you trade that day.
On Thanksgiving, equity index and interest rate futures stop at 1:00 p.m. ET and restart at 6:00 p.m. ET. The next day they close early, at 1:15 p.m. ET. More holidays, with notes, are in the CME holiday calendar 2026 and the CME holiday calendar 2027.
What the hours mean for prop firm traders
A prop firm sells evaluations, which are paid tests on simulated accounts, and gives a funded account to traders who pass. Each firm sets a flat-by time: the time by which every position must be closed. It is usually earlier than the exchange close. Topstep and FundedNext Futures use 3:10 p.m. CT (4:10 p.m. ET), MyFundedFutures 4:10 p.m. ET, Lucid Trading and Tradeify 4:45 p.m. ET, and Take Profit Trader 4:55 p.m. ET. Rules checked on September 26, 2026.
Holidays move these cut-offs too. On holiday early closes Tradeify requires positions to be closed by 12:59 p.m. ET. Take Profit Trader says that missing an earlier product or holiday close liquidates the account. The weekend matters as well: equity index futures stop on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET and restart on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET, 49 hours later, and the price can open far from Friday's close.

Exchange hoursThese are CME Group's exchange hours. A prop firm's own flat-by time can be earlier. A prop firm evaluation is a paid service with simulated trading. Most people who buy one do not pass it, and firms change their rules, pause payouts and close. Not investment advice.
Questions
What time do futures open on Sunday?
Most CME Globex futures open on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET (5:00 p.m. CT). Grains open at 8:00 p.m. ET. Livestock waits until Monday at 9:30 a.m. ET, and crypto futures do not close for the weekend.
Do futures trade 24 hours a day?
Almost. Equity index, interest rate, FX, energy and metals futures trade about 23 hours a day from Sunday evening to Friday afternoon, with a break from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. CME crypto futures have traded 24/7 since May 29, 2026, apart from short maintenance windows. CME's separate 1-Ounce Gold futures contract also trades 24/7, and a CME notice of August 10, 2026 announced 24/7 trading for 100-Ounce Silver and 10-Barrel WTI crude oil futures, pending regulatory review. These smaller contracts do not change the hours of the GC, SI and CL futures in the table.
What time does the futures market close on Friday?
At 5:00 p.m. ET for equity index, interest rate, FX, energy and metals futures. Grains close at 2:20 p.m. ET and livestock at 2:05 p.m. ET. Crypto futures keep trading.
Are futures market hours the same in UTC all year?
No. CME sets its hours in US Central Time, so the UTC times move by one hour when US daylight saving time starts and ends. The Sunday open is 22:00 UTC in daylight time and 23:00 UTC in standard time.
Is the futures market open on Thanksgiving 2026?
Partly. On Thursday, November 26, 2026, equity index and interest rate futures halt at 1:00 p.m. ET, and energy and metals at 2:30 p.m. ET; all four reopen at 6:00 p.m. ET. FX trades normal hours and crypto 24/7. Grains and livestock are closed.
