Prop Firm Reset: Rebilling, Credits and Cancellation

A prop firm reset restarts an evaluation. It may also change billing, depending on the firm's rules.

By helloweekends Editors · Sources checked October 10, 2026

A prop firm reset clears an evaluation's trading progress so the participant can attempt its requirements again. At Topstep, resetting an active Trading Combine restores the starting balance, loss limit, consistency target and trading-day count. It also moves the next rebill date. Cancellation is a separate action, and failing the evaluation does not stop its subscription.

The details below use Topstep's official documentation, checked October 10, 2026. They describe that program, not a rule shared by all futures prop firms. Compare the exact account size, pricing path and account stage before applying the example elsewhere.

Three actions with different consequences

Action at TopstepTrading effectBilling effect
Breach the Maximum Loss LimitTrading Combine becomes ineligible for funding until resetSubscription continues to rebill
Apply a ResetEvaluation progress returns to day oneNext rebill moves 30 days from the reset
Cancel the subscriptionThat subscription cannot be reactivated or resetEnds the active subscription

Topstep's subscription policy says a breached account can still be traded for practice while billing continues. A participant who treats the failed account as automatically canceled can therefore incur another renewal charge. Read the billing status in the dashboard separately from the evaluation status.

What a reset removes

According to Topstep's reset documentation, the account balance, Maximum Loss Limit, consistency target and trading days return to their original state. A reset does not preserve a partly completed evaluation. The same page limits resets to two per account each day.

Before confirming a reset, record the account number, account size, pricing path and remaining progress. This is a practical check derived from the policy: Topstep says purchased resets cannot be refunded and applied reset credits cannot be reversed. Its documentation notes a limited support adjustment if an account was profitable before reset and no trades were placed afterward; that is not a general promise to restore progress.

A reset is an evaluation mechanism. Topstep says it cannot reset an Express Funded Account or a Live Funded Account. Its Back2Funded program concerns reactivation of an eligible lost Express Funded Account and has separate conditions. Our simulated funded account guide explains why the account stage matters.

A reset can move the renewal date

The Trading Combine normally rebills every 30 days from its sign-up date until it passes or is canceled. Applying a reset changes the next rebill date to 30 days from the reset, including when an eligible Reset Credit is used.

Consider an illustrative calendar: an account is due to renew October 20 and a reset is applied October 15. Under the documented 30-day rule, its new renewal falls November 14. This is calendar arithmetic, not an account prediction. The dashboard's actual updated date should be checked after the reset.

A monthly renewal adds one Reset Credit to the profile. The participant must still apply that credit to an eligible account; a renewal and a reset are separate events. Topstep recommends completing resets the day before a billing date because renewal payments process early on that date.

Reset credits have matching conditions

Credits are tied to both account size and account type. A Standard-path credit cannot be treated as interchangeable with a No Activation Fee or DLL credit. Two smaller credits cannot be combined to reset a larger account, and credits cannot buy a new Trading Combine.

Canceling a subscription does not erase the profile's credits. They can be used for a future active Trading Combine of the matching size and type. The canceled account itself remains unavailable for reset. Topstep also distinguishes credits issued before December 11, 2025, which do not expire, from credits issued on or after that date, which expire one year after being added. The oldest matching credit is used first.

Price the reset separately from activation

Topstep's pricing page lists the following base reset prices. These are not a complete cost of reaching a funded stage and are not recommendations to buy a particular path.

Trading Combine sizeStandard resetNo Activation Fee reset
50K$49$95
100K$99$149
150K$199$229

The same page lists a $149 activation charge per Express Funded Account earned on the Standard Path and no activation charge on the No Activation Fee Path. Applicable taxes are shown at checkout, and promotions or a qualifying DLL discount can change the amount paid. Paths cannot be changed after purchase. Treat the figures above as the documented base reset prices checked on this page's date.

For a complete comparison, use the evaluation cost calculator and separate initial purchase, renewals, purchased resets, activation and optional data charges. Do not add a hypothetical monthly renewal that has been displaced by a reset's updated billing date.

Passing one account does not cancel the others

Topstep says the subscription attached to a passed Trading Combine is automatically canceled. Other active Trading Combines keep renewing until canceled individually. Its policy requires the dashboard to show the account passed before its rebill date; it gives the example of a fifth-of-the-month renewal requiring passage before trading ends on the fourth.

For participants with several accounts, the useful billing record is one row per subscription: account number, path, status, next renewal and applicable credits. A successful evaluation on one row does not close the rest.

A prop firm evaluation is a paid service with simulated trading. Firms can change rules or close, and buying resets does not guarantee passage or payouts. This guide is general information, not investment advice.

Questions

Does failing a Topstep evaluation cancel its subscription?

No. Topstep says a Trading Combine that breaches its Maximum Loss Limit keeps rebilling until passed or canceled.

Can a Topstep reset credit buy a new evaluation?

No. Reset credits apply to an existing active Trading Combine of a matching account size and type. They cannot purchase a new subscription.

Can a prop firm reset be used on a funded account?

Check the firm's account-stage rules. Topstep resets apply only to active Trading Combine subscriptions, not its Express or Live Funded Accounts.

Does a Topstep reset change the next payment date?

Yes. Topstep says applying a reset, including a Reset Credit, pushes the next rebill 30 days from the reset.
