CME Group reported a record June average daily volume of 30.6 million contracts, up 19% from a year earlier, in figures released on July 2. Equity index products set records for the month, and the Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 averaged a record 3.2 million contracts a day. The report covers exchange-wide trading activity; it announces no change to rules, hours or contract specifications.
June and second-quarter volume
Average daily volume, or ADV, is the average number of contracts traded per trading day in a period. CME Group put June ADV at a record 30.6 million contracts, 19% higher year over year, and second-quarter ADV at 29.8 million contracts, which the exchange describes as its second-highest second quarter.
Micro E-mini records
Equity index ADV rose 54% to a record 10.1 million contracts. Inside that total, the Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 set a record at 3.2 million contracts a day, and the Micro E-mini S&P 500 rose 39% to 1.5 million contracts a day.
Micro E-mini equity index futures and options together averaged 5.1 million contracts, which the exchange says was 50% of equity index ADV. Outside equity index products, Micro Silver futures ADV rose 191% to 69,000 contracts, according to the same release.
Who it affects
The report is a monthly volume statistic, not an exchange action. It reaches traders on evaluation and funded accounts only as background on how much of June’s equity index activity sat in the smaller micro contracts: half of it, on CME’s own numbers. Evaluations are paid services traded in simulated accounts, and the order flow described here is the exchange’s, not any firm’s.
What stays the same
Nothing in the release changes trading hours, holiday closures, margin treatment or contract specifications. Prop firm rules, including drawdown calculation, daily loss limits and contract-size caps, are set by each firm rather than by the exchange, and the release says nothing about them. The figures also cover all CME participants, so they do not separate retail, institutional or prop-funded activity.
