CME Group runs a shortened Globex session on Labor Day, Monday, September 7. Equity index and interest rate futures halt at midday, energy and metals an hour and a half later, and the market reopens that evening at 5 p.m. CT (6 p.m. ET) for Tuesday’s trade date. Anyone trading a paid evaluation or a funded account that day gets a short window and an unusual day count.
The Labor Day schedule
CME’s Globex holiday schedule lists Labor Day as covering 6 to 8 September 2026, with a regular close for all products on Tuesday, September 8 (CME Group). The halt times run by product group. According to Ultra Mega Trader, which published its schedule on August 31:
| Product group | Monday preopen, CT | Reopen, CT |
|---|---|---|
| Equities (ES, MES, NQ, MNQ, YM, RTY) and interest rates | 12:00 p.m. | 5:00 p.m. |
| Energy (CL, MCL, NG) and metals (GC, MGC, SI) | 1:30 p.m. | 5:00 p.m. |
The same report puts the FX preopen at 4:00 p.m. CT and the grain open at 7:00 p.m., and says CME publishes no Monday settlement prices for CME, CBOT, NYMEX or COMEX products. Tradesea’s help center gives the same midday stop in Eastern time: a 1:00 p.m. ET close and a 6:00 p.m. ET reopen.
Monday and Tuesday may count as one trading day
The part that catches evaluation traders is not the closing bell but the day boundary. A daily loss limit caps how much an account may lose within a single trading day, and the platform, not the calendar, decides where that day ends. Tradesea’s help center says that on Rithmic, Monday’s shortened session is combined with Tuesday’s and counts as one trading day. A loss taken before the midday halt would then sit inside the same limit as everything traded on Tuesday.
Whether that applies to a specific account depends on the firm and the data feed it uses. The dossier for this item covers Rithmic only, so treat other platforms as unconfirmed until the firm says otherwise.
What to check before Monday
Resting orders behave differently over the holiday too. CME says day orders entered after a product’s pre-opening on Sunday, September 6 carry trade date Tuesday, September 8, and can keep working until their Tuesday Globex close. September 4 TAM, TAM (Platts) and TAS close at their regular times per each product schedule.
Three things worth confirming with your own firm before Monday: which halt time applies to the products you trade, whether Monday and Tuesday merge into one day for your daily loss limit, and whether the firm counts the short session toward any minimum trading day requirement. Firms publish these details on their own rules pages, and the answers are theirs, not the exchange’s.
