Which futures prop firms allow automated trading? Of the 12 we track, five say on their own pages that bots or automated strategies are allowed with conditions: FundedNext Futures, Lucid Trading, MyFundedFutures, Topstep and Tradeify. Four ban full automation: Alpha Futures, Apex Trader Funding, Phidias and Take Profit Trader. Every firm that mentions high-frequency trading restricts or bars it.

Rules checkedRules checked on October 10, 2026 against each firm's own help center or rules page. Firms change these policies; read the linked page before you switch anything on.

Three kinds of automation

A prop firm evaluation is a paid service with simulated trading, and each firm decides which tools may place orders in it. The firms' pages separate three things:

  • Fully automated trading. A bot, algorithm or expert advisor (EA) enters, manages and exits trades without you. This is what most bans target. Apex names hands-off, set-and-forget and around-the-clock trading.
  • Semi-automated trading. Software suggests trades, for example an indicator that signals buy or sell, but you place and manage the order. Alpha Futures and Phidias allow this while banning full automation.
  • Trade copiers. A copier repeats your own orders on several of your accounts. Firms treat it as a separate question from bots, with their own limits.

The conditions that come with permission

Where a firm allows bots, the permission is narrow. The same conditions recur across the five firms that allow them:

  • No high-frequency trading. Lucid, MyFundedFutures and Tradeify bar it outright; Alpha Futures draws its line at over 100 trades a day.
  • No exploiting the simulator. Topstep lists scalping algorithms designed to exploit unrealistic simulated fills as prohibited, and MyFundedFutures says automated tools must not aim at the favorable fills of its simulated environment. FundedNext names latency abuse and order flooding.
  • Your strategy, your accounts. Tradeify requires sole ownership of the bot and forbids using it across firms. Take Profit Trader allows copiers only on accounts you own and control.
  • Your risk. Topstep makes no exceptions for errant trades or malfunctions, FundedNext gives no troubleshooting support, and Lucid holds you responsible for software errors.

A bot also has to follow every other rule of the account: the daily loss limit, the trailing drawdown and the daily close. Topstep's Express Funded Account rules, for example, require positions to be closed by 3:10 p.m. CT. An algorithm that holds through that time breaks the rule the same way a person would.

Trade copiers are a separate question

A firm that bans bots can still allow copiers, and the reverse. MyFundedFutures allows copy trading on all account types and names Tradesyncer and Tradovate's group copier. Lucid and Topstep allow copiers. Take Profit Trader allows them only across your own accounts and bans trading in sync with other users. Apex says its Performance and live accounts must not be traded by a copy trading service or trade mirroring software, and that copier results are the trader's responsibility. Bulenox charges $100 a month to connect to Rithmic through third-party software.

Copying across accounts also meets the hedging rules: Tradeify prohibits opposing positions held across multiple accounts, so a copier that mirrors one account long and another short breaks it.

Before you switch a bot on

  1. Read the firm's current page linked in the table, not a summary. Several of these pages were revised in 2026.
  2. Check how the firm defines high-frequency trading and microscalping, and whether a trade count or holding time triggers it.
  3. Test on a practice account first. Topstep tells traders to do so and to review its prohibited strategies.
  4. Set the bot to respect the daily loss limit and the firm's close time, and to stop if it disconnects.
  5. For a copier, check the account limits and hedging rules across every account it touches.

For the platforms each firm supports, see futures prop firms by platform. What a funded account is, and when it is simulated, is covered in simulated vs live funded accounts. All rule explainers are on prop firm rules, and policy changes go into the rule change log.

Know the riskA prop firm evaluation is a paid service with simulated trading. Most people who buy one do not pass it, and firms change their rules, pause payouts and close. An automated strategy can lose money quickly and breach an account. Not investment advice.
