This prop firm drawdown calculator shows where your maximum loss limit sits after each trading day. Enter your starting balance, the drawdown amount, how it trails (end of day, intraday or static) and where it stops trailing. Then add your daily balances. The calculator moves the floor day by day, shows how much room you have left and flags the day your balance would touch it.

Track your floor

The example below is a $50,000 account with a $2,000 end-of-day drawdown that locks at the starting balance plus $100. Replace the numbers with your own.

Your account

The account size the firm starts you with.

The maximum loss limit, for example $2,000 on many 50K plans.

Your firm's rules page says which one your plan uses.

The highest level the floor can reach.

Your trading days

Closing balance is required. Add the day's highest and lowest balance, open trades included, if you have them.

How we calculate

The floor starts one drawdown below the starting balance:

floor = starting balance − drawdown

On an end-of-day plan, after each close:

floor = the lower of: lock level, and the higher of: floor, closing balance − drawdown

On an intraday plan the same formula uses the day's highest balance instead of the close. A static floor never moves.

room left = closing balance − floor

  • The floor only moves up. A losing day leaves it where it was.
  • Once the floor reaches the lock level it stays there, however high the balance goes. With a lock at the starting balance plus $100, a $50,000 account with a $2,000 drawdown locks when the balance reaches $52,100.
  • A day fails when its lowest balance, or its close if you leave the low empty, touches or falls below the floor. Firms enforce the floor during the day, open trades included, so the calculator does the same.
  • On an intraday plan the calculator does not know whether the day's high came before its low. It assumes the high came first, which is the stricter case.
  • A day after a failed day is not counted.

Not included:

  • Daily loss limits, which close a day without failing the account. See daily loss limit prop firm rules.
  • Changes to the floor after a payout. See prop firm drawdown after payout.
  • Funded accounts that start at a $0 balance, such as Topstep's Express Funded Account. Enter 0 as the starting balance and a lock level of 0 to model one.

How three firms set the lock

Firms differ in when the floor is calculated and where it stops. Three examples from the firms' own help pages, checked on October 12, 2026:

From each firm's help center, checked October 12, 2026. 50K = a $50,000 account. Sources are listed at the end of the page.
Firm and account How the floor moves Drawdown (50K) Where it stops trailing Calculator setting
Topstep Trading Combine Rises with the end-of-day balance; monitored in real time, unrealized P&L included $2,000 At the starting balance End of day, lock at the starting balance
Lucid Trading LucidPro Follows the highest closing balance $2,000 At the starting balance plus $100, once the balance passes $52,100 End of day, lock at the starting balance plus $100
Apex Trader Funding EOD Performance Account Recalculated at 4:59:59 p.m. ET from the closing balance; enforced in real time $2,000 At the starting balance plus $100 End of day, lock at the starting balance plus $100
Apex Trader Funding EOD evaluation on Rithmic or WealthCharts Same as above $2,000 At the profit target balance, $53,000 End of day, lock at a level I enter: 53000
Apex Trader Funding EOD evaluation on Tradovate Same as above $2,000 It keeps trailing End of day, it never stops

The drawdown type and lock for all 12 firms we track are on our trailing drawdown page. The difference between the two trailing methods is worked through in EOD vs intraday drawdown, and firms that use end-of-day drawdown are listed in prop firms with end of day drawdown.

Know the riskA prop firm evaluation is a paid service with simulated trading. Most people who buy one do not pass it. The calculator shows where a floor would sit under the rule you enter, not what your firm will do; check your firm's rules page. Firms change rules and some close. Not investment advice.

Questions

How do I calculate a trailing drawdown?

Subtract the drawdown amount from your highest balance so far. On a $50,000 account with a $2,000 drawdown, a high of $51,000 puts the floor at $49,000. The floor never moves down, and at most firms it stops rising at a set level.

When does a trailing drawdown lock?

When the floor reaches the lock level. With a lock at the starting balance plus $100 and a $2,000 drawdown on a 50K account, that happens once the balance reaches $52,100. The floor then stays at $50,100.

What is the difference between end-of-day and intraday drawdown?

An end-of-day floor follows your highest closing balance. An intraday floor follows your highest balance during the day, open profit included, so a trade that runs up and comes back still lifts it.

Can I fail an end-of-day drawdown during the day?

Yes. Topstep and Apex calculate the floor at the end of the day but enforce it in real time. If your balance touches it during the session, open trades included, the account fails.

Does the calculator include the daily loss limit?

No. A daily loss limit ends your trading day without failing the account at most firms. The calculator tracks only the maximum loss limit.
