EOD vs intraday drawdown is about when your loss floor moves. An end-of-day (EOD) drawdown updates once a day from your closing balance. An intraday drawdown follows your highest equity during the day, open profit included. So a trade that runs up and then gives back raises an intraday floor but not an EOD floor. All 12 firms we track offer EOD on at least one plan.

The two methods

Both are trailing drawdowns: a maximum loss limit that follows your account up and never moves down. See trailing drawdown for how the floor locks. The only difference is which number the floor follows.

  • End of day (EOD). The floor follows your highest closing balance. Firms set the cut-off time: Apex uses 4:59:59 p.m. ET, and Phidias uses its session end at 10:00 p.m. UTC+2.
  • Intraday. The floor follows your highest equity at any moment. Equity is your balance plus or minus open trades. Apex's intraday evaluations trail the peak including unrealized profit, and Take Profit Trader's PRO account includes unrealized gains.

Worked example: the same day, both methods

The table follows one day on a $50,000 account with a $2,000 trailing drawdown. A trade goes up $1,500, then closes with a $300 gain.

Example only: $50,000 account, $2,000 trailing drawdown, no lock reached.
MomentBalance or equityIntraday floorEOD floor
Start of day$50,000$48,000$48,000
10:05 a.m.: open trade up $1,500$51,500 equity$49,500 (moves up now)$48,000 (waits for the close)
11:30 a.m.: trade closed up $300$50,300 balance$49,500 ($800 of room)$48,000 ($2,300 of room)
End of day$50,300 balance$49,500 ($800 of room)$48,300 ($2,000 of room)
Next day: down $1,000$49,300 balanceFloor touched: account fails$48,300: account still open

Under the intraday method, the brief $1,500 of open profit lifted the floor to $49,500 and left $800 of room. Under EOD, only the $300 closing gain counted, so the floor ended at $48,300 with $2,000 of room. The next day's $1,000 loss fails the intraday account and not the EOD one.

EOD does not mean you can ignore losses during the day

An EOD floor only moves at the close, but many firms check it all day. Topstep calculates its maximum loss limit from the end-of-day high and enforces it in real time. Apex enforces its EOD threshold intraday. Alpha Futures counts a breach on open equity or closed balance. If an open trade drops your equity below the floor at 11 a.m., the account can fail even under EOD.

Most intraday rules apply to the funded stage. MyFundedFutures Rapid, LucidDaily and Take Profit Trader PRO use intraday once you pass. Earn2Trade's intraday floor applies to Live accounts that trade real money. Check the stage, not just the plan name. Every firm's full rules are on its profile, and changes are in the prop firm rule changes log.

Questions

What is the difference between EOD and intraday drawdown?

An EOD drawdown moves once a day, based on your closing balance. An intraday drawdown moves any time your equity sets a new high, including open profit. On days when a trade runs up and gives some back, the intraday floor ends higher.

Does intraday drawdown include unrealized profit?

Yes. At Apex, the intraday threshold trails the peak balance including unrealized profit and loss. Take Profit Trader's PRO account uses an intraday drawdown that includes unrealized gains.

Can an EOD drawdown fail me during the day?

Yes, at many firms. Topstep enforces its end-of-day limit in real time, Apex enforces its EOD threshold intraday, and Alpha Futures counts a breach on open equity. The floor moves only at the close, but touching it at any time can fail the account.

Which prop firms let you choose EOD or intraday?

Of the 12 firms we track, Apex (EOD Trail or Intraday Trail accounts), Bulenox (Option 1 or Option 2) and Lucid (the LucidDaily evaluation) let you choose. MyFundedFutures offers the choice only through different plans.
